Engage! – Part 2

While I am starting to like the idea of the transit museum more and more I’m kinda leaning away from having to pay admission for 4 people just to take some pictures. Now I’m not really a nature-y type of gal but the park is free and is pretty much open all the time (well except 1am- 5am). There are some good locations worthy of a camera lens. Truthfully, admission isn’t really that much but ever since Miss Cinnamon Bun posted this:

Yatta!*

We did it! Finally! What could I possibly be so excited about? Bridesmaid dresses of course! Sis and Lil Sis went to RK Bridal last week to try on dresses. I went too but that’s not the important part. I quite preferred not being the one trying on dresses. We arrived around 5:30pm on a weekday and it was surprisingly quiet. RK is great because they have a very wide selection but…

Engage!

The mister and I have been throwing around ideas for our engagement shoot. Poor Mr. H could not fathom the import of an engagement shoot but he’s sweet and lets me persist in my madness.

Bits of Randomness

I'm still working on the invitations. A special thank you to my super duper minions! I'm off most of this week and next and will hopefully have them closer to finished by then. They won't be finished entirely because I have one or two more elements to procure. I'm kind of over my invites at this point. It's sort of like having too much of something and never wanting to see it again. I suspect this too shall pass. In other news I'll share some random updates and things.

The Time Has Come

It’s time ya’ll!!!!  To get those invites assembled. Since I assumed the printer minion role I got right to work when the paper arrived. Paper is heavy ya’ll!!! Especially 550 sheets of heavy cardstock.

The first thing I did was separate the paper into stacks for the invites, programs and menus. There was a separate pile for the extras too. Remember the bins for organization? That's where the paper now lives.

Rent The Runway Review

So I tried it out and it was pretty awesome! I think I've found a new problem I'm going to like having.  ::sheepish grin::

We rented four dresses. Here's why: Rent one get the second (equal or lesser rental value) for $25. Plus you get a backup size for free. Hence the four dresses. Here's how the backup can be useful:  let's say you think you might be a medium but the size chart has you straddling a large and a medium. What to do? Get both sizes!

The dress I rented

It was so easy. I'm in New York so shipping was quick since they are located in Manhattan. They ship UPS and they give you USPS envelopes to send the clothes back. All you have to do is drop it in a mailbox on your return date before noon o'clock. It's that simple!

I feel like an infomercial. Ha!

Everything arrived in great condition. They shipped in a garment bag on hangers. Ummm... you totally get to keep the bag and the hangers. The garment bag is pretty nice too. I suppose they let you keep it because they have their branding all over it.

My verdict: Good stuff!

I'm going to try them out again. I'm already making a list of events I need dresses for. Squeet!!

P.S. Wouldn't that dress be cute for a summer engagement shoot???

Weekend Warriors

The mister and I spent the weekend hitting up only the poshest of baby shower soirees. We had one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Poor Mr. H did a lot of driving this past weekend.

Anywho, I wanted to share my crazy wrapping job for one of the presents. This was a collaborative effort between Sister and me. She did the wrapping, affixing and pretty much came up with the concept. I supervised and did some hole punching. A taste of what the rest of our DIY projects will be like? Indeed!

Save the Dates (sort of)

Source

Technically I’m not doing save the dates. Originally, I wanted to do them. I have awesome (or so I thought) ideas for them but laziness set in. I couldn’t really get behind it. In my mind it was going to be an extra cost and extra effort. You know what I say to that?  Baaaah!

Don’t get me wrong I love Save the Dates. I enjoy looking at everybody’s cute ideas. I love how creative they can be.

A Caterpillar Primer

Thank goodness for the internet! Sister was surfing around and landed on this gem. This awesome mom threw an AIW inspired birthday party for her daughter and made all of the décor including the caterpillar.

A Guestbook of Sorts

I bet a lot of you are wondering where the whimsy is. Or maybe you want to know where the AIW influence is. Truthfully? Most of those elements are going to be “surprises” for the guests so I can’t share everything just yet. Trust me though. The invites? Very Alice-y. My dress? Kinda Alice-y. Décor? There’s some wonderland there. All will be revealed in time. To whet your appetite I’m going to share my idea for our guestbook.

It’s Like Netflix for Clothes

Brides, let’s be honest with each other for a minute. Our Bridesmaids are not really going to re-wear those dresses. Sure, you can let them pick their own dresses. The kind they can dress up or dress down with jewelry. The kind you can rework by adding a cardigan or a belt. You can do a whole lot of stuff but here’s the major problem. These dresses are going to get photographed…a lot! Those pictures are going to be up on Facebook before the wedding is even over. So where am I going with this?

March Wrap-up & April Gear up

March wasn’t a big git ‘er done kind of month so the wrap-up is brief. I didn’t do much. Moving on.
April, however, is a horse of a different color.
